JADOOGADU - A PREDICTABLE MAGIC TRICK
By Yashwanth Aluru
Everyone’s life has a moment to prove him/her. For filmy people, this moment comes often. So, it’s the time for director Yogesh who was noted with his “Oka Raju Oka Rani” and “Chintakaayala Ravi” films, and Naga Shaurya who got a lover boy image with “Oohalu Gusagusalade” and “Lakshmi Raave Maa Intiki” films to prove that they can impress the mass audiences as well. Such moment gave birth to the film “Jadoogadu”. Sonarika played the female lead while V.V.N. Prasad produced on Satyaa Entertainments banner.
Plot:
An ambitious guy Krishna (Naga Shaurya) comes to Hyderabad from Palamooru to prove himself by earning at least an amount of one crore rupees. The rest of the story is all about how this ambition changed his life.
Screenplay:
This is a pure commercial film which targets the mass audiences of single screen theatres. It proved that a film is a business at the end, irrespective of how it was made.
Coming to the screenplay, there are no new elements found in it. The first half runs without any ups and downswith all the elements necessary for a commercial film. One such element is “Sreenivasa Reddy”. Though he had a lesser screen presence, he entertained the audience well along with “Satya”. But there are more drawbacks here. The action sequences troubled with their longer runtime. There is no healthy romance between the lead pair. The director relied on just kisses to entertain the audience. The predictable screenplay leaves the audience with no element of enthusiasm at the “Intermission” frame.
The second half is better than the first one. Krishna’s character goes flat with the time while the others got elevated. Yet the title “Jadoogadu” which conveys a meaning of “Magician” reminds the audience that Krishna will do something to win, at the end. Krishna came up with a good plan at the end. Meanwhile, Sapthagiri’s entry into the plot lets the audience feel relaxed. Especially, the scenes where his spirit comes out and beats him were remarkable. One more such scene was where Sreenivasa Reddy and Prithvi Raj play chess. Though it’s a shorter one than Sapthagiri’s, it’s quite entertaining.
If talked about music, veteran music director Manisharma’s son “Sagar Mahathi” got introduced as music director with this film. Rather than comparing him to this father, it can be said that the music failed to attract the audience. No song is either ruminative or shot well. Though this film targets mass audience, the director might have forgotten that even they can enjoy melodies. This film lacks a melody song between the lead pair. But the director and music director opted for peppy numbers only.
Coming to the performances, Naga Shaurya’s performance is acceptable though there are shades of other stars like NTR, Prabhas and Mahesh Babu in him at some times. Sonarika is wasted as usual, confined to kisses and songs. Veteran actor Kota Srinivasa Rao played a regular master villain. Ravi Kale and Aashish Vidyarthi’s performances are over the top.
So, Jadoogadu is a plot which deals with a “Mind Game” and tried to do magic at its targeted audiences. Doing business at multiplexes is a question but it can attract the single screens’ audiences for some time.
Eminences:
1) Naga Shaurya.
2) Sreenivasa Reddy, Sapthagiri’s entertaining performances.
3) Climax part.
Lowlands:
1) Regular Plot and Screenplay.
2) No healthy romantic scenes between the lead pair.
3) Long running Action Sequences.
4) Less attractive music.
